Our Mission
The mission of the Faculty of Medicine and Biological Sciences (FMSB) is to promote education and academic excellence by training competitive graduates who can successfully enter the healthcare labour market across Europe.
The Faculty trains specialists in Medicine, General Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics, Balneophysiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Dental Technology and Biology, with theoretical and practical competences in the field of health, in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary setting.
Through all its study programmes, FMSB aims to become a centre of excellence in teaching, in the training of specialists and in health research, reaching a level of research activity that increases the Faculty’s international visibility.
Our study programmes have clear and achievable objectives, comply with legal regulations and are aligned with the national qualifications framework, the needs of the labour market and the European Higher Education Area. Our priorities are:
- continuously adapting our educational offer and teaching methods to demand, so that we train competitive graduates and specialists who can easily integrate into healthcare systems across Europe;
- selecting and developing a valuable academic staff with high integrity, and promoting efficient management;
- professionalism, impeccable ethics and humanism in healthcare, and an active contribution to the reform of the national research system;
- multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary scientific research, focused on national and European strategic priorities, that produces knowledge serving human well-being and development.
Message from the Dean
The Faculty of Medicine and Biological Sciences is preparing a new generation of health and biology specialists who serve their patients with purpose, passion and competence. Our faculty and teaching staff share a common vision of an interprofessional, student-centred approach to learning, with a strong emphasis on humanistic healthcare. We strive to shape the path forward for our students and graduates by being leaders in our profession, in our communities and in academia. Today’s advanced technology and continuously evolving medical knowledge place our faculty in a new era of medicine. A strong desire to heal, combined with a solid medical education, is what sets our students apart.
Our faculty has excellent teaching facilities, where students develop skills and competences in fundamental and applied medical research. Our programmes are open to everyone, and our team aspires to be the best at providing high-quality education to students, so that they, in turn, can make a positive difference in the lives of their local and national communities.
